Different Type of Commercial Cranes Used in Construction

is a business that calls for different kinds of cranes, which not only serve the industrial purpose of lifting heavy materials and aid in their transport, they also make the task much easier and faster. Basically the crane is defined as a tower or even a derrick, which comes featured with cable and pulleys. These are then used for not only lifting but also lowering materials. These are ideally used for construction work, but they can also be used in warehouses and other places that require the use of shifting heavy weights. These are operated through an operator who uses a push button pendant control station or even radio controllers to help in the same. There are many types of commercial cranes used depending on the size and weight of the material to be moved.  These cranes differ based on the engineering technique used to lift heavy materials.  Some of the types are described below:

  • Mobile cranes
  • Rough terrain cranes
  • Crawler cranes
  • Hydraulic truck cranes
  • Construction hoists
  • All terrain cranes
  • Conventional truck cranes
  • Tower cranes
  • Extreme Reach forks
  • Carry Deck cranes
  • Aerial lifts
  • Boom truck cranes
  • Bridge cranes
  • Loader cranes
  • Monorails
  • Hoists

Below mentioned are descriptions of some of these cranes:

Mobile Cranes

With a lot of options available, the commercial cranes include mobile cranes too. These are the most common ones that are available and are made of steel truss or telescopic boom. This is mounted on top of the mobile platform. The platform ranges from rails to wheeled ones or even using different kinds of cat trucks. At the bottom is the hinged boom, which can be then raised or lowered.

Tower Crane

Another type of the commercial cranes is the more contemporary tower crane, which uses advanced technology for better balance. This is fixed to the ground and the device towers up to get you better height without having to move much. In particular, very tall buildings or high-rises make use of this crane to reach better heights.

Truck Mounted Crane

These cranes come on a rubber truck, as the name indicates. Doing so provides them with much better mobility and also helps to get you an outrigger. This can be extended either vertically or horizontally and then get stabilization from the base level.

Telescopic Crane

This is another kind of commercial crane that gives industrial workers the convenience of a telescopic boom. These booms are controlled using  hydraulic mechanism. Doing so helps in retracting and extending its tubes to newer lengths without much fuss.

Rough Terrain Crane

Another type of crane is the rough terrain crane that comes mounted on top of an undercarriage. It feature 4 tyres made of rubber and is ideally designed for roadside operation. So it can be used for roads and paths leading to the building and making the area smoother for operation. The crane has outriggers, which extend to both vertical and horizontal lengths thus giving you the ease of faster and better operations.

Loader Crane

As you can guess from the name, the loader cranes are another kind of commercial cranes that comes with hydraulic power and easily fits on a trailer. Considering that a lot of stone and heavier material needs to be lifted from the trailers and trucks, this crane helps in making the process easier. An added advantage is that it can be folded up without taking much space when not in use.

These are just some of the many kinds of commercial cranes that you can use for construction business. Apart from this, there are some basic designs available that are used for lighter purposes or indoor purposes like bridge cranes, monorails, hoists, etc. You can go for something more innovative in combination with these basic cranes like the Level Luffing Cranes that features a hinged jib and will give you up and down movements. So go ahead and pick a safe and sensible one for your construction business or other similar needs.
