Parquetry flooring is a visually appealing way of embellishing your living space with strips of wood that are arranged in a regular and rhythmic pattern. Although parquetry flooring was initially a lifestyle that only the opulent could afford and entertain, the designs have been becoming more accessible to people with a wide range of budget. The condition to enjoy beautiful parquetry flooring is to ensure that the subfloor is leveled well. The next process involving sanding is almost in all cases left for the professionals who do the job efficaciously and smoothly. Parquetry flooring could be categorized in various ways depending on their pattern, composition and engineering process. Given below is a list depending on the various heads and divisions.
Wood Flooring |
Based On The Pattern:
- Herringbone Parquet: This is the most common and elegant parquet design. Herringbone parquet designs are used to amplify the flooring designs of a lot of spaces other than personal homes. Factories, institutions, other commercial areas etc adorn this kind of flooring as the pattern best suits the purpose and the ambiance. The herringbone pattern is a self-explanatory design because it resembles the spine bone of a fish exactly. Herringbone parquetry flooring is done by several blocks of rectangular wood which are placed at right angles to each other thereby producing a corrugated effect of the zigzag pattern.
- Chevron Parquet Flooring: While herringbone pattern is made by placing the blocks of wood at right angles to each other, chevron parquet flooring is when the blocks of wood are so placed that it replicates the point of an arrow. These then can be initiated either in parallels or diagonals to the overseeing wall. This usually makes it more expensive than the usual herringbone pattern as more care has to be taken to install it in a perfect arrow point. However, it is worth the debt as they imbibe the house with a certain elegance and beauty.
- Basket Weave Pattern: Basketweave pattern is when different blocks of wood are placed either in parallels or diagonals to each other to emulate the pattern of a basket weave. This can be achieved in monochromatic or dichromatic blocks of wood- whatever suits the buyer best.
- Brick Pattern: This kind of parquetry flooring employs blocks of wood to replicate a brick pattern. Although this might seem pretty monotonous, unusual levels of sophistication can be achieved by using feature strips around the room and by using blocks of wood with different shades of wood color.
Based On Structure:
Parquetry Flooring |
- Solid Structure: When single blocks of unhampered wood are used to create the parquetry floorings.
- Engineered Structure: When multiple strata of hardwood are used to create a parquetry flooring design.
- Parquet Overlay Structure: These are wood pieces which are generally thinner and are laid on the top of previously lain pieces to achieve a stronger effect of parquetry flooring.
Based On Budget:
- Low Budget: The thickness of the parquet floor usually determines its price. Thinner flooring would cost one less than thicker flooring which requires more sand.
- Medium Budget: These parquet floorings have layers which are thicker and thus need sanding to be done more than one time.
- High Budget: These have a thickness exceeding 3.5 mm and give a more rustic look to the flooring.
Parquet floorings are beautiful and a good replacement from floorings with no design. They can be modified and modeled after a lot of design which might sometimes be traditional and thereby add meaning to the overall layout of the place. Investing in a good design must be done after a proper understanding of the different types of it and how they are classified.
Parquetry flooring looks fabulous but floor safety should be considered after polishing the floor.
