Concrete Pumping – What Should You Know?

Concrete is an integral aspect of construction and engineering work. Concrete pump machines have come as a handy tool for transferring concrete mixture on the spot without consuming much time. It allows efficient mixing of materials and pouring the material in the right quantity. There are different types of concrete pumping machines available in the market.

Types of Concrete Pumping Machine

Concrete Pumping
1.    Truck mounted pump
2.    Trailer pump
3.    Specialized usage pump

Truck Mounted Pump - These are also known as boom pump. The pump is attached to the truck and can be easily navigated to the site of work. With the help of its robotic arm, it allows the right placement of concrete on the construction site. They are actively used in large construction projects. The reason for this is because the pump allows pumping a high volume of concrete at a time which allows completion of work in time. Because of its robotic arm, it reduces the labour cost.

Trailer - These are also known as a line pump or stationary pump. Because this concrete pump is mounted on the trailer, they are known as the trailer pump. It has a steel or rubber hose attached to the outlet. The hose is manually attached to the machine. Another extension hose can be added to it to make sure that the concrete can reach the site of work. Such concrete pumps are used in places where a small volume of pumping is required. Some of the examples include home concrete slabs, sidewalks, and swimming pools.

Specialized usage pumps - Although, the above two categories are popular ones, there is another type of pump which is required in many places, and these are called as specialized usage pumps. They are used for specialized work like tunnels, mines, etc. Although they are efficient, they are not so commonly used because they are costlier and require some extra mechanism which makes its usage not so popular.

What Are The Advantages Of Using Concrete Pumping?

Concrete Pumping
There are various reasons why these pumps are so popular. Some of the advantages it has to offer include:
  • It offers an efficient mechanism of placing concrete at the site of work.
  • Faster placement of concrete even at inaccessible sites.
  • With robotic arms and specialised working mechanism, it reduces the labour cost.
  • Saves time, energy and money.
  • Its functioning is not affected by adverse weather conditions, thus, allowing timely completion of work.
  • High quality work.
Should You Buy Or Rent The Concrete Pump Machine?

Well, investing in concrete pumping machine can be a costly affair. There are various factors that you should consider before planning to invest in such a machine. Paying for the machine may not pay off in the longer run. You must know that there are various costs associated with this machine-like maintenance, repair, and clean-up. So, you must do the cost-benefit analysis before you invest in this machine.

An easy way out is to rent a machine from the company dealing in this. Before hiring a pumping contractor, you need to figure out for how long you would need the machine and then crunch numbers. After comparing the cost, if you find renting is cost-effective than purchasing, you must go ahead with renting the services of the concrete pump contractor.

Conclusion - Concrete pumping is an important system that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of construction work. All you need to do is to check the kind of pump you require and choose the right company to make the right investment. While doing this, you must know that these machines require heavy investment, so hiring such services may be a good option.
